Have you ever shown up to a session and cringed a little bit at the neon green shirt your client showed up in? When I started photographing couples, I would just email them when & where to meet — and that was pretty much all I did to prepare them for our session together. Sometimes it worked out fine, but more often than not, my clients showed up not knowing what to expect and I left feeling like I could have done way more to prepare them ahead of time.
Enter: the Session Guide. What started off as a couple of pages with outfit advice turned into a 20+ guide filled with information on not only what to wear, but also how to choose the right location, mindset, and what to expect before/after the session. Sending out this guide before engagement sessions has been a game changer for my client experience. I no longer have to worry that my clients will show up totally unprepared, because all their questions have been answered before they’ve had a chance to ask
Rachel and I met serendipitously in Boston when we were both in the early stages of pursuing photography. Over the last five years, we have grown our businesses alongside one another–learning from each other’s mistakes + celebrating every milestone. Though we now live on separate coasts, we continue to inspire each other over daily FaceTimes and shared adventures. We’ve come to learn that being a photographer is so much more than just taking photos– it’s about giving an amazing and informed client experience. With that in mind, we put so much work into designing these guides to help other photographers level up their businesses. The Session Guide will not only answer all your clients’ questions, but also make them feel comfortable as ever stepping in front of your lens, letting you create your best work.
Having a dedicated client guide to walk your couple through preparing for their session with you is invaluable for their experience of working with you. They'll feel taken care of, and assured that they've hired a true expert.
It's taken me months to write copy & design these guides — so you don't have to start from scratch! I created these to help other creatives improve their client experience and save valuable time in the process.
Let's face it, as photographers we wear a million hats. It's hard enough to balance all the things, let alone learn ANOTHER Adobe program! Using Canva will cut the time it takes to create your guide in half. So instead of taking days to create, it will take a couple hours.
Do you spend hours on emails and phone calls answering questions about what to wear, where to go, and how to prepare for a session? Sending a client guide cuts down on all of that, so you can do more of what you love.

I personally send all of my client guides by exporting them as a PDF and sending via email or Google Drive. You can definitely print your guides out and send a physical copy, but these guides are designed for digital use.
Canva is completely free to use in order to edit these guides! All you need to do is sign up for an account. There is a paid option for Canva with additional features, but for the purposes of these guides — you don't need to upgrade to the paid version.
